Sometimes you get what you wish for. I was just thinking last night that I would love to help out with the local sea turtle rescue here in Melaque. Little did I know I would be doing it today. As I do every morning, I woke up early and headed out the door for my walk on the beach with Tucker. When I got to the beach Tucker took off running. I figure while he was off enjoying his run I'd sit down and enjoy the view. As I was about to sit down I saw what I first thought was a sand crab. I thought 'Good thing I didn't sit on a crab!' ouch lol. Then I saw some floppy legs not claws. OMG it's a baby turtle! I didn't know what I should do, but I knew I had to do something. Operation save the turtle had begun. I carefully picked it up and noticed it was covered in hard dried sand. It's face was covered too. Poor thing couldn't open it's eyes. It wasn't going to make it safely down to the ocean in that condition. So I grabbed Tucker's plastic water bowl out of my backpack, put some ocean water in it and washed it's little face so it could see. I was so excited when it opened it's little eyes. I was just about ready to send it off into the ocean when I noticed another baby turtle coming out of plants on the beach. I grabbed him too and off we went down to the water. I was really glad I had my camera in my bag so I could shoot video of them. They were so cute. What a cool experience.
Update Nov 8th - I found a few more babies today in the same area. Seems their mama had the right idea by hiding her eggs in the plants. They were well hidden from predators. Way to go mama turtle!
I guess I know where I'll be hanging out today. :)

7am, no make-up, look like a little rough - but I'm happy. :)
