Flooding

I'm not sure if I'll be flying into Manzanillo on Sunday. Right now the airport is closed because of heavy rain and flooding. Melaque is also flooded. At this point the roads and highway from the airport to Melaque are closed. Even if I land in Manzanillo I may not be able to get to Melaque. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stops raining and the water starts to recede. This is crazy. Mother Nature needs to give this area a break already. Holy crap.

Goodbye Patricia

Yesterday all flights to and from Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo airports were cancelled, 15,000 people were evacuated, gas and electric companies shut down services, windows were covered with boards, sandbags were piled and lots of people prayed. Well maybe that collective consciousness worked because Hurricane Patricia arrived without touching down in a busy populated area. The hurricane came and went without creating the catastrophic damage that was expected. Yes roads are flooded, trees are down and buildings have been battered but it could of been so much worse. I'm sorry this happened and there is so much to clean-up. But I'm thankful it's over and there weren't any deaths reported. The Mexican people are hard working and resilient. I'm sure they have everything look beautiful again in no time.

Hurricane Patricia update

I woke up this morning hoping when I checked the weather reports that the hurricane had downgraded or moved off course into the ocean, but unfortunately it hasn't. It's gotten stronger. Hurricane Patricia has now been recorded as the strongest storm ever measured. Should be hitting land in about 2 hours. I will be watching reports and hoping to hear from my friends in Mexico all day.

SPCA Puerto Vallarta needs urgent help!

This is the notice posted on the SPCA PV Facebook page. If you're in the area please help.

We must evacuate the sanctuary!!!

With the arrival of Patricia, it is expected to flood in the area where our sanctuary is located.
We will begin evacuating at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) morning.  We have 85 dogs PLUS cats.
We need volunteers with vans or trucks.  Even smaller cars can help too.
Please let us know if you can help and please pass the word.  Also need volunteers to help moving the dogs from the sanctuary to trucks.  They will all be placed in boarding kennels.
Contact us at spcapv@gmail.com.

Hurricane Patricia

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone on the Pacific coast of Mexico right now. Category 5 Hurricane Patricia is expected to hit the area sometime tomorrow. I have many friends in Puerto Vallarta, Barra de Navidad and Melaque that I'm worried about. The hurricane is expected to cause excessive rainfall, destructive winds, flash floods and landslides. I hope everyone gets through it safely.

Stuff to do

There is always so much to do before I leave.

Here's what I need to do today...

- Get a haircut (Don't worry it's just a trim. Not short like last time. Although it was easy to do my hair every day when I barely had any lol)

Me and my cool carefree hair on Isla Mujeres

- Clean out my car (Who knows what's lurking under my seats.)

- Order pesos from the bank (I should of done this days ago! The bank doesn't have any Mexican pesos on hand. They have to order them in.)

- Get my motorcycle helmet from the storage locker (Road trip. So excited!)

- Weigh my suitcases (Hopefully I kept them each below 50 lbs. I always bring too much.)

- Call my cellphone company (I need to put my account on a seasonal hold. It's $15 a month. That way I don't lose my phone number.)

- Install games on my new iPad. (I need something to keep me busy while I travel.)

- Buy an umbrella (Last year I got soaked in Puerto Vallarta because I didn't have one. This year I will be prepared!)

After a soggy night in PV (Look I still had hair then lol)

So that's my list for today. I'd better get off my computer and start working it. :)

Packing, packing, packing

And the packing process has begun. Well in my case, it's the trying to cram a whole bunch of stuff I won't use into a suitcase process. Haha. Yes it's true that I could probably survive with a couple of t-shirts, shorts, a bathing suit and pair of flip flops. But hey you never know when I'll need 8 pairs of shoes. ;)

Is it November 1st yet?

I'm excited to announce I'll be back in Mexico on November 1st. I'm planning on staying in Melaque for the winter, but as usual I'll probably venture out to explore other towns. If you follow my blog you'll know I'm known to leave on a whim for new adventures. Since being diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, my motto has become 'If something sounds fun, do it!'. I try not to do anything too risky. Well, except the time in Puerto Morelos when I paid extra at the Crococun Zoo to walked into a pit of crocodiles...
