Memorable Moments & New Beginnings

It's time to head home. My two rescue dogs and I are about to leave to catch our flight to Victoria. These fortunate pups have loving new homes waiting for them - one in Duncan and the other in Chemainus. I'm happy they'll be nearby so I can visit them.

This trip has been full of amazing experiences and unforgettable moments. From the culture and delicious food to meeting some of the kindest people, every aspect of this adventure has been wonderful.

Farewell for now, Mexico. Thank you for the memories. I can't wait to come back and create even more.

Scruffy New Friend

There's a new passenger with us on our trip back to Melaque.

Today, while walking along the boardwalk in Chapala, I came across three puppies playing in the dirt. Naturally being the dog nut that I am,  I went over to see them. None of the male puppies wanted to come to me because they were too scared. Nevertheless, the scruffy female jumped on my lap and started licking my face. As soon as I picked her up, I decided she was coming back to Melaque with me, and I would find her a good home.

Fortunately, my travel companion is an animal lover, and she didn't object to travelling with a smelly flea-ridden bundle of love.

I love giving these stray dogs a chance at a great life.

Creepy Writers Room

Leaving Guanajuato earlier than planned, I headed back to Melaque through Chapala and stayed at Quinta Quetzalcoatl Boutique Hotel. Due to a booking mix-up, I was upgraded to the D.H. Lawrence room, where he wrote 'The Plumed Serpent'. The room was beautiful, but I felt like I was being watched all night, which made it difficult to sleep. Despite this, I would happily return for another stay - perhaps in a different room.

Charming San Miguel de Allende

Today I took a day trip to San Miguel de Allende, a town rich in history and charm. Known for its colonial architecture, lively arts community, and quaint cobblestone streets, San Miguel de Allende captivated me. I can't wait to come back and uncover more of its beauty and historical treasures.

Guanajuato City is Amazing!

I've had a fantastic few days in Guanajuato. It's been a wonderful experience, and I wish I could extend my stay. This city has left a lasting impression on me, and I'm already looking forward to coming back. There's so much to discover and enjoy here - it's truly a unique and captivating place.

Guanajuato is nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains, its hills covered with closely packed houses. Most streets are so narrow that cars have to navigate through the city in underground tunnels. Walking through these tunnels felt like being in caves, with people waiting for buses amidst exhaust-filled, dimly lit spaces. It's a remarkably unique city.

If you're in the area, I highly recommend visiting Guanajuato and joining a walking musical tour with the 'Callejoneadas'. I captured a video of one of their lively walks, and I absolutely loved it. Eduardo, the handsome and charismatic group leader, can serenade me anytime!

If you're in Guanojato and you'd really like to see something unique (and morbid) visit the mummy museum. But keep in mind it's not for the faint of heart. The mummies freaked me out because most of them looked like they died while being tortured. They actually died in the 1800's of Cholera, but there are stories that some of them were buried alive. The thought of that and visions of them screaming kept me up all night. As someone who can't handle watching horror movies I should of known better than to go there. Remind me not to do that again and remind me to tell my kids I'd like to be cremated! Eeek
