Bye bye Mexico

Home is calling. Soon, my two rescue dogs and I will be heading to the airport for our flight uh to Victoria. There are some very eager owners waiting for these lucky dogs, one from Duncan and the other from Chemainus. I’m happy they’ll be close enough for me to visit them.

I'm ready to head home. Until next time, Mexico. Thanks for the memories. I look forward to seeing you again soon.

My scruffy new friend

There is a new passenger with us on our trip back to Melaque. Walking along the malecon (boardwalk) beside Lake Chapala today, I came across three puppies playing in the dirt. Naturally, I went to see them. Neither of the boys wanted to come to me because they were scared. Nevertheless, the scruffy female jumped on my lap and started licking my face. As soon as I picked her up, I declared she was coming back to Melaque with me and I would find her a good home. As much as I would have liked to take the boys with me as well, they wouldn't get close enough, so I took just the little girl. Fortunately, my travel companion is an animal lover, and she didn't object to our returning with a smelly flea-ridden bundle of love.

I love giving these dogs a chance at a good life.

Chapala

Even though I would have liked to stay a little longer, I decided to leave Guanajuato and head back to Melaque. While traveling through Chapala, I stayed at Quinta Quetzalcoatl Boutique Hotel, where I stayed in a very luxurious room. Thanks to an upgrade, I received the D.H.Lawrence room, where Lawrence wrote The Plummed Serpent. The room had something truly magical about it, I barely slept.

San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende was the destination of our day trip today. I'd love to return and explore more of this beautiful town.

Guanajuato

The past few days have been wonderful in Guanajuato. It would be great if I had more time here. This is a place I plan to return to again. There is so much to see and do in this incredible city. It's like nothing I've ever seen before. The city is located in a valley surrounded by mountains. Hills are dotted with houses built close together. Almost all of the streets are too narrow to drive on. The cars drive in tunnels underground. It felt as if I was walking through a cave when I walked through the tunnels. There were people waiting for the bus in dark, humid tunnels filled with exhaust. What a cool city. You should definitely visit Guanajuato and take a walking musical tour with the 'Callejoneadas' if you're in the area. Here's a video I took of one of the groups' walks. I loved it! Eduardo, the group leader, can serenade me at any time.

If you're in Guanojato and you'd really like to see something unique (and morbid) visit the mummy museum. But keep in mind it's not for the faint of heart. The mummies freaked me out because most of them looked like they died while being tortured. They actually died in the 1800's of Cholera, but there are stories that some of them were buried alive. The thought of that and visions of them screaming kept me up all night. As someone who can't handle watching horror movies I should of known better than to go there. Remind me not to do that again and remind me to tell my kids I'd like to be cremated! Eeek
